My curriculum includes; desktop publishing, presentations, spreadsheets and databases. All this will be accomplished in 6th and 7th grade. The 8th graders will have much greater challenges; they will learn digital picture manipulation, advanced desktop publishing, coding and video/music editing .
Computer class is considered one of our “specials”. Your child will be in my class 2 out 3 days; if I see them on Monday and Tuesday, I will not see them on Wednesday. Where the district has switched report cards to trimesters; specials still run on quarters and semesters. 6th and 7th grade students will take each special for one quarter. 8th graders will have only 2 specials each for a semester. Another facet, that has not changed in the specials area is grading. We are currently not on the standards based report cards. Therefore, I have 4 categories for grading all of which carry a 25% weight; daily participation, classwork/homework, assessments & multimedia. If your child is missing an assignment, the grade will be a 0 with an M in the corner, meaning they can make it up. If there is no M on the grade, they may not make up that assignment.
Another new thing that is coming to the middle school is keyboarding!!! MANY parents have asked repeatedly and now we have it. The district is purchasing us a subscription to typingpals.com. As soon as I receive all the information, as far as logging in and usernames I will pass it along to all of you.
